Tennessee WR commit Alontae Taylor scores 7 touchdowns in win

Each week, we spotlight the performances of Tennessee recruits in the Class of 2018, and how they fared with their respective high school teams. In this edition, we look at commits wide receiver Alontae Taylor, tight end Jacob Warren and defensive end Jamarcus Chatman.

Alontae Taylor

The night before Taylor took a pivotal visit to Notre Dame, he put together one heck of a night.

Taylor scored 7 touchdowns Friday in his last regular season game of his high school career for Coffee Country Central (Manchester, Tenn.) High School.

Taylor rushed for 301 yards on 13 carries for 6 touchdowns, according to Demarco Moore of the Manchester Times. He returned the second half kickoff for his other score of the game.

Taylor has proven throughout his final season he is one of the fastest, hardest to bring down players in the state. Tennessee might find themselves in a dogfight for his services. Retaining a commitment from Taylor is vital, though.

The Vols have lacked play makers on this season, specifically at wide receiver. Tennessee has recruited Taylor to play wide receiver from the beginning.

Jacob Warren

Warren made waves Thursday night when Farragut (Knoxville, Tenn.) High School played Hardin Valley on national television.

Warren showed off his catching abilities to the mass audience.

Farragut lost to 37-36 to Hardin Valley, but the Admirals are in the midst of an 8-2 season. Warren has been a big part in the effort.

In nine games this season, Warren has 28 catches for 501 yards and 6 touchdowns, according to maxpreps.

Tennessee tight ends Ethan Wolf and Jakob Johnson will exhaust his eligibility at the end of this season. This could open up potential playing time for Warren, 6-foot-6, 211 pounds, if he can come in and prove to be a consistent contributor.

Jamarcus Chatman

Chatman helps form one of the best defensive lines in Georgia. He teams with LSU commit Ja’Quon Griffin and Georgia commit Adam Anderson.

This has helped propel Rome High School to a 9-0 record in his senior season, according to the Rome News-Tribune.

Rome has one game left before the playoffs. A win Friday against Woodland High School would be Rome’s first undefeated regular season since 2004.
