Multiple ESPN personalities go after Danny Kanell after controversial Alabama take

Danny Kanell loves a well-crafted controversial take. His latest take on Alabama not being in the Top 4 for the College Football Playoff is as controversial as ever, and it has drawn a strong response from at least a couple ESPN personalities.

On Sunday morning, Kanell dropped his Top 8 college football teams after Week 9 action. While Georgia was the No. 1 team on the list of the noted SEC hater, the major takeaway from the list was Alabama at No. 5.

Leaving the Crimson Tide, which is the consensus No. 1 team in the country in both the AP and Coaches Polls, out of the Top 4 appears to be “crazy talk” on the surface.

In the moments after dropping his list, Kanell took heat from some personalities at ESPN (his former employer) on social media.

ESPN college football analyst Booger McFarland Tweeted the following message:

SEC Network host Peter Burns took things a step further and made things personal:

Kanell did not take the criticism lying down. In fact, he upped the ante by responding directly to McFarland via video on Twitter:

“Stop coming at me on this beautiful Sunday morning when you’re all upset about a Top 4 that, first of all, doesn’t even matter,” Kanell said in what appears to be a poolside video. “Second of all, it’s not a projection. It’s who should be in the Top 4 or the Top 8 based on right now at this point in the season. If you can’t say anything without using the term ‘eye test’ or what you think you see, then don’t even bother coming at me. Booger, get out of here with that garbage. You still have Ohio State over Oklahoma when Oklahoma went into The Shoe and beat them? How does that make any sense?

“Take away everything you think and go with what we’ve seen on the field.”

Is now a good time to mention to Kanell that Alabama has put together one of the most impressive starts to a conference slate in SEC history, in terms of point differential? We’re sure he’d respond with something about the strength of schedule, but it’s important to remember that Alabama only can play the teams on its schedule.

Props to Kanell for keeping the Crimson Tide fan base entertained through the bye week, though.
