Auburn football: Nothing but making moves on off weekend
Auburn football is the No. 1 topic in the War Eagle Wakeup every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across the Tigers’ sports world. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Auburn football, recruiting, basketball and more.
Progressing during bye week
A little rest and relaxation resulted in a big win for Auburn football, even on its off weekend.
Auburn moved up three spots to No. 16 in the AP poll on Sunday morning after not even taking the field on Saturday. The Tigers also moved up to No. 15 in the Coaches poll.
On Tuesday, the College Football Playoff rankings will be released and that’s going to be very important, as will Auburn’s looming games against Georgia and Alabama.
First up is Texas A&M, though, which suffered a loss at the hands of Mississippi State over the weekend. In the next several weeks, several games will have a significant impact on the rankings (for example, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State play on Saturday — and that’s just the beginning). So, with a few weeks left in the season and a chance to upset the two best teams in the country, No. 16 is actually pretty sweet.

Rest results in a win
Auburn volleyball had a week off but jumped back into its season on Sunday afternoon in South Carolina. And the day went smoothly.
The Tigers defeated the Gamecocks, 3-1, improving to 12-8 overall (5-6 SEC). This is the first of several reminders that Auburn will welcome (well, kind of) Alabama to Auburn Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT.

This doesn’t really have anything at all to do with Auburn football, but because the Tigers had a bye week, here’s a struggle loyal college football fans understand.
