Report: Doctors are working to save Bears TE Zach Miller’s leg after injury
Bears tight end Zach Miller’s leg injury in Sunday’s game against the Saints turned out to be much worse than originally thought.
Miller, in his ninth season in the NFL, underwent emergency surgery in New Orleans in an attempt to save his left leg, league and team sources told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, after the Bears’ 20-12 loss.
The sources have said the operation was to repair a damaged artery in Miller’s leg.
The injury occurred in the third quarter when Miller dislocated his knee while coming down with a pass in the end zone before officials ruled that he didn’t maintain possession of the ball. Many disagree with that ruling.
Here are a couple looks at the injury. Just a warning that the second clip is graphic, but it’s necessary to show it to those wanting to understand the severity.

Miller was carted off the field after staying down for several minutes. After the game, it was determined the injury would end Miller’s season.
The surgery performed on Miller was done by vascular surgeons who, as part of the procedure, grafted tissue from the other leg to repair the damaged artery. He remained hospitalized overnight.
After the game on Sunday, Bears coach John Fox said the team’s “thoughts and prayers are with him.”
