LSU-Alabama game preview
Alabama enters this game undefeated for good reason. The Crimson Tide rank No. 1 nationally in scoring defense and rushing defense, No. 5 in scoring offense, No. 7 in rushing offense and No. 10 in passing defense. The Tide are outscoring opponents 344-78 this season. That mark shifts to 238-38 in SEC play.

To be fair, the Tigers are coming in hot as well. After losing two out of three games in the early going, LSU has steadied under first-year coach Ed Orgeron, winning three games in a row including victories over then-ranked opponents Florida and Auburn. Over this three game stretch, the Tigers have averaged 28 points per game while allowing 21 points per game. Dave Aranda’s defense ranks No. 13 nationally in pass defense and No. 27 in scoring defense.
Since the “Game of the Century” in 2011, Alabama has defeated LSU six games in a row. Two of those six wins have been shutouts, including Alabama’s 10-0 win over the Tigers in 2016. LSU and Alabama played into the fourth quarter of that game tied 0-0 before Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Hurts broke the game open with a rushing touchdown, the only one either team scored all afternoon.
Hurts returns for Alabama this year, completing 62.5 percent of his passes for 9 touchdowns and 1 interception. He’s also run 84 times for 576 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Over the last two years, LSU has run the ball 53 times against Alabama for 87 yards. That works out to 1.64 yards per attempt.
