How much would it cost to fire the SEC’s top coaches?

USA Today released its annual coaches salary database update on Wednesday, and it’s created a little bit of intrigue with regards to SEC coaches on the hot seat.

A small hand full of coaches are expected to be relieved of their duties at some point between now and the end of the season — but how much will it cost those universities to fire their head coach? And how could that factor in to the ultimate decision?

Here’s a list of all 14 SEC head coaches and their current buyout figures:

Alabama Nick Saban: $26,900,000

Kentucky Mark Stoops: $14,765,625

Florida Jim McElwain: $12,916,668

Georgia Kirby Smart: $10,800,000

Texas A&M Kevin Sumlin: $10,416,667

LSU Ed Orgeron: $8,791,667

Tennessee Butch Jones: $8,125,000

South Carolina Will Muschamp: $7,188,333

Auburn Gus Malzahn: $6,898,958

Arkansas Bret Bielema: $5,874,227

Missouri Barry Odom: $1,462,500

Mississippi Matt Luke: $1,430,000

Mississippi State Dan Mullen: no buyout

Vanderbilt Derek Mason: no buyout

Alabama’s Nick Saban would cost an unthinkable $26 Million to let go, so it’s a good thing for the Crimson Tide that he’s been so successful in Tuscaloosa.

Among the SEC programs most likely to make a coaching change after the 2017 season, Missouri and Arkansas would have the most frugal route.

LSU and Tennessee would both have to pay around $8 Million to fire Ed Orgeron and Butch Jones. Given that it’s Orgeron’s first year at the helm and Jones’ fifth, the Vols seem more likely to cough up the cash.

Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin has worked his way off the hot seat with good play on the field, but he would cost north of $10 Million to let go after this season — his job might have never been in real jeopardy.
