BREAKING NEWS REPORT: Tennessee tailback John Kelly pulled over with misdemeanor drug possession

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee tailback John Kelly and middle linebacker Will Ignont are facing the likelihood of a suspension for the Kentucky game after drugs were found in the car they were in during a Tuesday night traffic stop.

Knoxville’s WATE-6 broke the news that, according to a police report, Kelly was driving a vehicle on Cumberland Ave. around 10:46 p.m. and Ignont was the passenger when the two were pulled over due to a headlight being out.

“We just became aware of the incident and we’re looking into it,” Tennessee football spokesperson Zach Stipe told SEC  Country.

The WATE-6 report states that when the window of the car was rolled down, the officer claimed a strong smell came out of the vehicle.

“The players consented to the vehicle being searched and a clear plastic bag of what appeared to be marijuana was found in the center console,” the report states. “KPD says there were 4.6 grams in the bag. Officers also found a glass pipe.”

Neither player claimed ownership of the bag and pip, and were subsequently cited and allowed to leave.

Both Kelly and Ignont must turn themselves in for booking at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office by 7:30 .m. on Nov. 7.

WATE-6 reports Kelly was cited for possession of a schedule 6 drug (a misdemeanor), not having a headlight and not having proof of insurance.

Ignont, a true freshman, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia; which is a misdemeanor.
